Macau (MNA) – A report released on the economic diversification of Macau in 2017 by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) found that the gaming industry was dominated by games of chance, or games played within casinos, which comprises 99 per cent of gross gaming revenue (GGR). GGR coming from games of chance amounted to MOP265.74 billion (US$32.9 billion) in 2017, up by MOP42.35 billion in 2016. However, this was lower than the peak GGR from games of chance which reached MOP360.75 billion and MOP351.52 billion in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Revenue from sports lotteries, horse racing, greyhound racing (in the now defunct Canidrome race track), Chinese lottery, instant lottery and so on amounted to MOP864 million in 2017. Within games of chance, VIP gaming had made up the largest share, accounting for 56.9 per cent in 2017, up by 3.4 percentage points year-on-year. However, this was lower than the peak years between 2012 and 2014, for which VIP gaming had comprised over 60 per c
